Description
This Toolbox supports competencies from the Conservation and Land Management Training Package in the areas of Cultural Resource Management. The Toolbox uses simulated Indigenous cultural heritage sites and tasks to allow Indigenous learners to expand on the hands-on learning in this area.
This Toolbox provides an immersive, media-rich learning environment with virtual reality sites and ‘live’ guides. The Toolbox invites intuitive exploration with many virtual environments and artefacts to investigate. Very little literacy competency is necessary to get deeply immersed in the Toolbox’s core information.
The first step in the conservation of cultural sites is the recognition and documentation of these sites. The learner is encouraged to explore nine cultural sites and, with the help of audio guides, to understand how to identify and analyse different sites and their key elements. This almost traditional ‘find and discuss’ experiential approach is deepened through analytical questions and tasks on site documentation and conservation in the Site Surveys, Tasks and Build Your Own sections.
The core of the Toolbox is structured around five major site types – two types of stone tool-making, scarred trees, axe grinding and hearth – with four more real-world sites that give actual examples of these site types.
