Description
The Diploma of Laboratory Technology Toolbox supports the training requirements of laboratory technicians undertaking the Diploma of Laboratory Technology from the Laboratory Operations Training Package (PML99). While using the structure developed for the Series 4 Laboratory Operations Toolbox, this Series 5 Toolbox contains six units at Diploma level. Learners can undertake this Toolbox without any previous experience with the Series 4 Toolbox. An orientation is provided to help first time students understand the concept of the virtual laboratory and the navigation of the Toolbox.
The virtual workplace is called SimuLab and is a small laboratory where the learner takes on the role of laboratory assistant and is required to carry out biological, chemical and physical testing on a range of samples. The workplace is presented as a reception area with doors which provide access to various people for information, the Resources and Training Room for content and the laboratories to conduct tests, as well as access to the outside world to do field work. The virtual workplace is a repository for resources such as websites, manuals and a library of content. The learner can ask staff questions and can undertake activities and personal study. Communication between learners and the teacher is encouraged through the use of chat rooms, email and discussion forums.
