Description
The Disability and Mental Health Toolbox uses tasks, activities, and problem solving to engage the learner. After being presented with a task the learner gathers the information and experience - both on and off-line - needed to accomplish it. The tasks are realistic are based in a workplace, and require the same sorts of sub-tasks to accomplish them.
The learner may be required to: attend meetings, do research, read or write reports, conduct planning, make contacts, interpret data, present information, interview clients, contribute to group discussion – in short, do anything they would be expected to do in the workplace!
The setting is a simulated community centre (Carman Poldis Community Centre, CPCC) where the learners take on ‘jobs’. The jobs are selected at the CPCC Reception and each job relates to a competency.
The jobs and tasks reflect real-life situations, and the supporting resources aim to give the learner a variety of ways to acquire the required knowledge & skills. The learner has control over which resources he/she uses, and the jobs are self-contained so that they may be selected as required.
