Applying twitch

Did you know?

A twitch is one of the most common methods we use for restraint during treatment or examination.

Most people think that the twitch is a cruel method of restraining a horse but it has been found that once the twitch is applied correctly it causes the brain to release endorphins or feel good hormones that can help to relax the horse.

If the twitch is not applied correctly and it comes off, the horse will often try to avoid it being fitted again. This can cause the body to release adrenaline which makes the horse more anxious to get away from you. So it is important to develop a good technique to efficiently apply the twitch.
