Safe handling precautions

Bill

When you are handling a greyhound you need to avoid injury to yourself and other people.

There are some rules to remember to avoid injury. You need to:

  1. introduce yourself to a strange greyhound by letting it sniff your hand (fingers closed, palm down) before you attempt to touch it.
  2. touch a greyhound on the chest or side of the face before reaching behind its head.
  3. discourage others from hugging your greyhounds as this is a dominant gesture in dog body language and may cause a greyhound to bite.
