Safe handling precautions
When you are handling a greyhound you need to avoid injury to yourself and other people.
There are some rules to remember to avoid injury. You need to:
- introduce yourself to a strange greyhound by letting it sniff your hand (fingers closed, palm down) before you attempt to touch it.
- touch a greyhound on the chest or side of the face before reaching behind its head.
- discourage others from hugging your greyhounds as this is a dominant gesture in dog body language and may cause a greyhound to bite.
For more information about safety precautions go to the Resource Centre.
