You need to be able to recognise the colours of racing greyhounds. Some coat colours are more common than others. For example, dun is a very rare colour and many trainers have never seen a dun coloured animal.

The Australian and New Zealand Greyhound Stud Book (ANZGA) recognises the following greyhound colours:

  • black
  • blue
  • fawn
  • dun
  • red/fawn
  • blue/fawn.

Also some modifications to the previous colours are recognised, these include:

parti-coloured, brindle.

Did you know?

The skin colour of all greyhounds when they are born gives us an idea of any white hair that may be present.

Skin colour under white hair will be pink while skin colour under coloured hair will be black or grey.

After you have finished the activities click next to learn about markings of the greyhound.
