A horse that is reluctant to go forward when being lead, ridden or driven is said to be jibbing.
 
Judge
The person who decides the official placing and margins for each race or trial. They are also responsible for deciding who the placegetters are in the event of a photo finish or developed print.

Kennel cough
Also known as tracheobronchitis is a highly contagious canine illness. It is characterised by inflammation of the upper respiratory system. It is so named because the infection can spread quickly among dogs, such as in the close quarters of a kennel.

May describe a group of individual kennel spaces in a single building and / or a property that has the facilities for housing (kennelling) greyhounds. See also race kennel.

Knee hobbles
A piece of equipment used to restrain the horse. Straps are fitted above each of the horse's knees, the straps are attached to each other prevent the horse from moving.
 
Knots

Bowline is a knot that does not slip which means that it will not get tighter or looser.

Reef knot is a knot that does not slip; it is designed to sit flat so that it is less likely to rub.

Slip knot is a knot that is designed to come undone when the tail of the rope is pulled.

Lame
The term used to describe a horse or greyhound which is limping or has difficulty walking properly. Lameness is often caused by an injury or problem with one or more of the feet and / or legs.

Laminitis
Inflammation of the soft tissue inside the wall of a horse's hoof. Commonly known as founder (this can make the horse reluctant to walk on its toes as the inflammatory process causes the pedal bone to change position inside the hoof wall.
 
Lead
A strap or rope usually attached to the headcollar, halter or collar to make it easier to lead the horse or greyhound around.

The process of acquiring knowledge, attitudes or skills from study, instruction, or experience.
 
License
The authorisation from the racing authority to a person so they can participate in training, handling, driving or riding racing animals.
 
License suspended
If a person is found to have committed an offence against the Rules of Racing their license may be taken away temporarily. This is called a suspension. The person cannot participate in racing for the length of the suspension period.
 
Ligaments
Soft tissue that attaches bones to bones. See also tendons.

Colour range in some greyhound body coat colours. The coat colour is light cream with a blue tinge.

A type of bit that prevents hanging in horses.

The actual item used to entice a greyhound to chase. Generally consists of an artificial toy designed to resemble a large rabbit or hare.
