Working safely

Trisha, Bill and Fred

Now we are going to go through some of the safety rules and procedures that you must follow in my stables as well as the personal protective equipment you must use.

OH&S procedures are the guidelines that outline the safest and most efficient ways for workers to carry out their jobs.

These are commonly called Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).

It is critical to workplace safety that there are clear, written and available procedures for all employees to follow when working with horses or greyhounds as well as operating all equipment and machinery.

Safe Work Methods (SWMS)

Following SWMS helps to prevent accidents

Did you know?

The racing authority in most states is developing SWMS for many common duties in racing.

Many workplaces have also developed their own SWMS.

The SWMS should be available for you to look at before you begin any new task or to review a procedure if you have not performed the task for a while.

SWMS need to be reviewed and kept up to date; it is up to all of us to assist in this process.
