Safety and emergency procedures in workplaces are everyone’s business no matter where you work.
When working with horses / greyhounds or doing other jobs you need to be aware of your safety and the safety of other people.
As you work through this job watch out for your racing code’s symbol attached to some activities.
Just as we have road laws to make our roads safe, there are also laws to make our jobs safe. These laws are called Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Acts or Workplace Health and Safety Acts depending on which state you are working in.
The aim of these laws is to make sure that all people at work:
- have safe places to work
- have safe systems of work
- practice safe ways of working
- maintain set safety standards.
OH&S standards are included in the Rules of Racing and you have an obligation to comply with these safety directions.
EVERYONE'S BUSINESS
OH&S is everybody's responsibility not just bosses and not just employees but everyone working together.
