A Healthy Start

This Toolbox resource supports the delivery and assessment of the unit HLTHIR1A, Work effectively in the health industry. This unit covers skills and knowledge that are essential to a person beginning employment in the health industry, and will support a wide range of workplace contexts including hospitals, specialist care providers, alternative medicines, general practice and professional practice; as well as support roles such as cleaning, laundry, catering and client service.

The Sunset Bay Health Campus, which is the main interface for the Toolbox.

The learning setting is in the Sunset Bay Health Campus, pictured at left.

Individual areas within the campus provide access to the learning activities, which will be arranged by element of competency.

Within each main area, you can access individual activities - each one of which will support the performance criteria from within that element of competency.

Simply roll your mouse over the image to navigate through to the learning activities in the Toolbox.



When fully developed, the Toolbox will offer a total of thirteen discrete learning activities (learning objects), each one of which will contain the following components:

Introduction icon Presents the learner with a problem to solve or task to undertake.
Task icon Explains the activity and what it contains, sets the scene.
Investigate icon Provides the learner with content and resources to support the task, such as policies and procedures, standards and legislation etc.
Try this! icon Here, the learner gets "hands on" learning with interactive elements and knowledge checks such as multi-choice questions.
Think & discuss icon Contains discussion prompters and opportunities for further learning. Ideal for collaborative learning through discussion boards, group work etc.
Workplace project icon Provides the learner with opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge from the activity into his/her own workplace context. Can also be used to support assessment for the competency.
