SET 6
Brief 6-2

Understanding the product

Context:

The starting point for any test is to understand the aims and objectives of the multimedia product: its purpose.

All information relating to the purpose must be gathered. It may have been provided in a tender brief, or contained in a business plan or marketing strategy. If this information is not available, then discuss the purpose of the product with key people within the production team.

It will also be necessary to have an idea of the budget and technical parameters of the product. Sometimes comments made by users about useability derive from their naivety or ignorance about what multimedia products can achieve. An evaluator needs to understand these comments in the context of budgetary or technical limitations of the project.
