GENERAL PRINCIPLES

Trainer/assessor roles
We have designed the resources with the role of trainer and assessor split. This allows for the situation where the training is delivered in the workplace, and the assessment is done by the registered Training Organisation. However, if the training and assessment is done by one person, it's simply a matter of sending the Reports to the correct address.

a) Trainer Feedback.
This needs to be ongoing for each learner throughout the training period. In each BRIEF, we have indicted to the student that it would be advantageous to contact the trainer for clarification. In other cases, they will contact their "buddy" or mentor.

b) Assessment.
For each brief, we have indicated the level and scope of assessment. The Directions in each brief set the task for the learner, and in that task, certain elements of competency are being set. Both the trainer and assessor are expected to comment on the progress of the learner throughout the learning, so that the learner knows if they are reaching the standard required. Sometimes, the brief assessment will be based not on a product outcome, but on the learner's participation in the team building exercise, in forming partnerships with buddies and mentors.

We have suggested a value for each brief that lets you know how important the assignment is in the context of the complete program.

Marking would be as follows:

For each brief, give a mark out of 100. Then use the formula: Mark out of 100 X Value/170 = Brief score. Adding all the Brief scores will provide a total out of 100 for the whole unit of competency.

Flexibility of the resource
This is a highly flexible resource. It is not locked into a particular web site. You can take the files and re-compose these as you wish.

a) Dis-aggregation of the resource.
All the files for this TOOLBOX have been identified separately in a directory (loaded onto the CD-ROM. To see how this system works in practice, there is a model site for you to visit. www.idea.com.au/toolbox.

b) Portability.
As the files in this resource are all separate, they can be easily integrated into any distributive learning system. Each of the learner's briefs, and the Reports that attach to each, can be loaded into a DLS as you want. The NETWORK, which in this system is simply an instruction about who to contact and how to contact them details, can be overwritten by the communications facility built into the DLS

c) Customisation.
Every Brief can be included, or edited. We have constructed a form that provides a simple editing process allowing you to customise any page. However, the limitation with this system is that you will not be able to develop additional pages beyond those provided in each SET.
