What is the trainer's role?
With the introduction of the vocational and educational training system the role of the trainer has changed dramatically.
As the focus for training becomes more learner-centred and takes into account individual and industry needs, the emphasis on flexible delivery methods has increased.
In a flexible learning environment, the role of the trainer encompasses:
- face-to-face delivery
- on and off the job facilitation
- individual coaching/mentoring
- online facilitation
- the facilitation of self-paced learning materials
- formative and summative assessing.
In order for training to be effective, the program should be customised to meet workplace and individual needs, and be based on sound educational practice and principles. In addition, consideration for special needs learner's and safety issues must be taken into account.
