The Setting

This toolbox is designed for the Certificate II in Electrotechnology Servicing - Security.

Each unit of competency has a list of jobs to be completed.

The learner takes on the role of an employee in the fictitious organisation, E-Tech Security and, as an employee, completes the allocated jobs using a variety of easily accessible resources. (Units of competency are located in the E-Tech work van and resources can be found in the E-Tech Headquarters.)

You can choose units of competency to study, or take the tour.

A Learning Scenario

Each unit has a clearly defined purpose, and the learner completes a series of tasks which show them clearly how to carry out an activity.

For example, the Unit Transport Apparatus and Material has three jobs. Each job features a real world scenario and there are materials to study and tasks to carry out.

Job 2 in this unit has a task Check the E-Tech Van for Roadworthiness. The learner inspects a virtual van and its engine for problems, and prepares a report. (This report helps teachers assess competence.)

Teacher's GuideThe Teacher Guide describes the eight units in detail. This extract explains the key features of the toolbox, the options for study, and how assessment is carried out.

Collaboration

The student will discuss issues with colleagues and, in some instances, carry out tasks in their workplace. They are also encouraged to communicate with other students, their online teacher, and industry experts.

Flexible Use

Information resources are available in a section of the toolbox called Headquarters.

Explore Headquarters and find out the kinds of resources available.

Headquarters Information

See Inside Science on the Magazine Rack.

See E-Tech Training in the PC.

Separating the information resources from the learning activities (rather than embedding them in the lesson sequence) provides flexible access for learners. It also allows teachers to use individual resources.

Try the links on the left to access the resources independently of the Toolbox navigation.

In Headquarters you will find:

Customisation

This extract from the Teacher Guide explains the file structure of the Toolbox and how to use selected components. It also describes how you can change resources and webpages in the toolbox to suit your own teaching needs. (There are also suggestions for customisation in the Teacher Guide after the description of each Unit.)
